Salvatore Seeley, LCSW
Licensed Psychotherapist

About Me

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) with more than 20 years of experience helping people navigate difficult and often complicated periods in their lives. I work with individuals facing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, addiction, relationship concerns, life transitions, and times when they simply feel stuck or uncertain about what comes next.

At the heart of my work is a simple belief: people are not defined by their hardest moments. Change is possible, and therapy can provide a place to better understand yourself, recognize patterns, develop new ways of coping, and decide how you want to move forward.

My Approach to Therapy

My approach is practical, collaborative, and tailored to the individual. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and mindfulness. Rather than expecting you to fit into one particular model of therapy, we will explore what works best for you and your goals.

I believe therapy should be more than simply talking about what is wrong. Our work can include developing practical skills, examining patterns of thinking and behavior, understanding what may be keeping you stuck, and identifying meaningful changes you can make in your everyday life.

Looking at the Whole Person

I use a biopsychosocial approach, which means we look at the whole person rather than focusing only on symptoms or a diagnosis. Our emotional well-being is influenced by many interconnected parts of our lives.

Together, we may explore biological factors such as physical health, sleep, stress, and other aspects of well-being; psychological factors such as thoughts, emotions, behaviors, coping patterns, and past experiences; and social factors such as relationships, family, work, identity, community, culture, and environment.

Understanding how these different areas interact can help us identify not only what may be contributing to a problem, but also the strengths, resources, and opportunities for change already present in your life.

A Stoic Influence

Stoic philosophy also influences the way I think about therapy and change. We cannot always control what happens to us, what has already happened, or the choices other people make. We can, however, work on how we respond, where we place our energy, and what we choose to do next.

This isn't about ignoring difficult emotions or simply "accepting" everything that happens. It is about learning to distinguish between what is within our control and what is not—and finding ways to live according to our values even when circumstances are difficult.

Sexuality & Relationships

I have extensive experience in human sexuality and sexual health and welcome conversations that people may sometimes find difficult to have elsewhere. My practice is sex-positive, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and poly/kink-aware.

I work with individuals exploring sexuality, identity, intimacy, relationships, sexual concerns, and patterns of sexual behavior that may be causing distress or interfering with their lives. These are important parts of being human and deserve to be discussed openly, respectfully, and without judgment.

Problematic Gambling & Behavioral Concerns

I also specialize in problematic gambling and other behavioral concerns. Gambling can move from something recreational or manageable into a behavior that affects relationships, finances, work, emotional well-being, and your sense of self.

My approach focuses on understanding the behavior and what may be driving it, addressing its consequences, strengthening coping skills, reducing the risk of returning to harmful patterns, and creating sustainable change. Accountability is important, but so is recognizing that a person is more than the choices they have made.

Why This Work Matters to Me

My own experiences with significant personal and professional challenges have deepened my understanding of accountability, resilience, and the difficult work involved in making meaningful change.

I don't believe therapy is about pretending the past didn't happen. It is about understanding it, taking responsibility where necessary, learning from it, and deciding what you want to do with the life in front of you.

A Little About Me

When I'm not working, I enjoy theatre and the arts, walking, reading, exploring philosophy, volunteering, and experiencing all that Baltimore has to offer. I value curiosity, humor, creativity, and continuing to discover new interests and experiences throughout life.

Moving Forward

You don't need to have everything figured out before coming to therapy. Sometimes recognizing that something needs to change is enough of a place to begin.

Whether you're facing a difficult chapter, trying to change a longstanding pattern, exploring an important part of yourself, or simply wondering what comes next, I welcome the opportunity to understand what's happening in your life and help you determine where you want to go from here.
